Icycle Creek Canyon (July 16-17, 2005)
I finally got back on the rock after ~3 years (thanks AV for moving back to WA) and Em got into a harness for her first time. We met up with Adam, Donni & Jackson and Nathan & Christine early Saturday morning and then spent the day cragging up at Bathtub Rocks. We think we realized how it got this name as we all hung out on the top of one of the buttresses in a depression that looked like it would fill with rainwater. Probably totally wrong, but we felt clever.Nathan & Christine took off that afternoon to get back to the westside. The rest of us cleansed ourselves in Icycle Creek before finding a camp spot for the night. Thank goodness Donni grew up partying at all the "unincorporated" camp sights as she scored us a beauty!
The next day we climbed with the mountain goats and tried to stay in the shade before the heat beat us up. Speaking of getting beat up, I need to learn how to "shove my hand in there" as crack climbing is quite difficult for those of us who don't have the jams figured out yet. We finished the day with a swim in the creek and then a satisfying meal on Gustav's deck.
It was great to get back into the Icycle, thanks AV & Donni for guiding us around.
